Fort Clinch is a 19th-century fortress located within Fort Clinch State Park. Built with approximately five million bricks, this fortress’ roots go back to the 1700s, when Florida was a Spanish territory. Fort Clinch even played a role in the Civil War, providing shelter to Union soldiers. Now recognized as a part of Fort Clinch State Park, this fort is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Situated inside the old Nassau County jail is the Amelia Island Museum of History. Preserving and protecting the rich history of Amelia Island, this is the first spoken history museum in Florida. Established in 1811, Old Town was once the original site of the city of Fernandina and the last Spanish city platted in the Western Hemisphere.
